Mikki & Al’s Noshery — Montclair, NJ

Just off of Bloomfield Ave in Montclair is Mikki & Al’s Noshery. It’s owned by the same people who own Plum Bakery next door. I passed by it one day walking back to my car after spending a day in Montclair over a year ago and finally got around to trying it recently. There isn’t much seating here and the place is very bright inside but small. It’s perfect for a grabbing a quick bite to go or sitting at a two seater outside.

What We Ordered

Reuben Roll

The reuben roll is an egg roll of corned beef and sauerkraut with a russian dressing dipping sauce. It was delicious!

The knish was huge. It had rosemary throughout which was a first for me – rosemary in a knish. We weren’t huge fans but it was delicious. Just not the classic knish flavor we were expecting.

The sloppy joey was a pretty good sandwich. I feel the pastrami was a tad dry. I wish the sandwich was just pastrami no turkey maybe corned beef instead? Or a roast beef even. Anyways, it was still good regardless. Not the type of sandwich I’d coming running back for.

It was a triple decker with pastrami, swiss, cole slaw, russian dressing and turkey on rye bread. A sandwich so huge they cut it into three pieces. At the price point of $20-30 per sandwich, they definitely can feed 2 people.

They also make the bagels and all the chicken salads and basically everything in house so that is some stuff I will have to come back and try. The pastrami however I am not itching to come back for.

I must mention the coleslaw is amazing and vinegar based. I loved it, such a refreshing tang between bites. I didn’t like the pickle though personally, it was a sour pickle and I prefer just a plain ol’ dill pickle.
