I found myself blogging at Damasco Cafe in Clifton, NJ on a Friday night recently after being recommended by someone on Tik Tok. This Syrian place serves savory and sweet treats as well as coffees and tea. They have a massive parking lot as they are located in the strip mall by Corrados.
My first impression was that this place was a good find. There are pink flowers everywhere, the perfect working ambient lighting and there’s wifi! Right off the bat if you are looking for a quiet cafe this wouldn’t be so ideal as they pound the ice cream Syrian style so that can get a little loud but I honestly didn’t mind.
They have a kids corner, too. So this place is very family friendly.
What I Tried
I got the Arabica Tea with cinnamon. it was okay, not the best tea I’ve ever had. I should’ve gotten something more classic like chai.
My sister ordered a pistachio latte and I didn’t think it was too bad! Nothing to brag about though.
To eat, we split a za’atar croffle (croissant-waffle) and Baklawa with ice cream.
The za’atar croffle said it came with labneh, which I thought would pair wonderfully but ours was just served with some olives, pickles, cucumbers and tomatoes. A little disappointed we didn’t get our labneh. And the croissant was a teensy bit burnt, but it was okay.
The Baklawa was decent. not my favorite I’ve ever had. There was a rose flavor coming from this dish which wasn’t too strong and was actually quite pleasant on the palette. (I meant to order the Baklawa ice cream and accidentally ordered the baklawa with ice cream – bummer)
While I wouldn’t come running back for the coffee or tea, the authentic Syrian ice cream (which comes with a show) looks good enough to have me come back to this spot at least one more time. It is a great spot to get work done.
If you find yourself at Damasco Cafe leave a comment below! I’d love to know your favorite thing on the menu. Happy reading + eating!
