I recently was scrolling Tik Tok and came across a video by an ice cream shop pretty close to me posting that their taylor ham ice cream was back in stock.

If you’ve been to New Jersey, you’ve probably heard of a controversial food – some call it Taylor Ham, other Pork Roll, whatever you call it, we can all agree it’s delicious.

My brain froze. What the heck could that taste like?

So naturally, I had to go see for myself. I pulled up to Clyde’s Ice Cream in Garfield, New Jersey. Here, they offer a maple ice cream base with pieces of sauteed taylor ham throughout.

It was unique to say the least. The maple base was quite delightful, but I’m not so sure how iI felt about texture of the cold taylor ham bits. The worker there said people were comparing it to pancakes and bacon. I think it’s a bit more like dipping your sausage in syrup!

I wasn’t mad at it, just a little unsure of the clashing feelings in my mouth between the cold, creamy ice cream and the more gritty, meaty taylor ham.

The smaller bits were actually pretty good. While the larger pieces really did have a heavier ham flavor.
